Beaverton Break-In: Gun Safe With Multiple Firearms Stolen During Targeted Home Burglary
A residential break-in in Beaverton has sparked serious safety concerns after thieves stole a gun safe containing several firearms from a home. Durham Regional Police say the break-in happened at a residence near Thorah Concession Road 4 and Thorah Side Road while the homeowner was away for the day. When the homeowner returned, the front door was found open and the gun safe was missing.
A CP24 report states that authorities have stated that several firearms were secured properly inside the safe at the time of the theft. A $25,000 reward has now been offered through Crime Stoppers for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.
Police continue to investigate and are asking anyone with video footage, surveillance video, or information from the area to come forward.
If you have any information about this incident, please contact Durham Regional Police Service or your local police division. Even small details could help recover the stolen firearms and prevent future break-ins.
Safety Notes: How to Better Protect Your Home
- Install a monitored alarm system with instant emergency alerts
- Use outdoor security cameras to monitor entrances and driveways
- Reinforce doors and entry points with high-quality locks and make sure doors are locked when home and away
- Keep valuables and safes hidden from plain sight
- Install motion-activated lighting around your property
- Regularly check your yard for signs of surveillance or suspicious activity
- Avoid posting travel plans or vacations publicly on social media
- Add monitored sensors for doors, windows, and garage access points
- Store all firearms properly in a locked gun box
Break-ins involving firearms are especially concerning because stolen weapons can later be used in violent crimes. Criminals often target homes they believe contain valuables, safes, or unsecured property.
Many residential break-ins happen during daytime hours when homeowners are away at work, making visible security systems and monitored protection more important than ever.
