Security systems for Toronto neighbourhoods

Knightwatch has protected Toronto homes and businesses since 1988. Central Toronto’s century homes, semis, condos and main-street shops each need a different plan — here’s how we approach them.

Century homes, semis and laneways

Much of central Toronto was built before 1950. Older detached and semi-detached houses often have plaster walls, basement walk-ups, rear laneways and detached garages — entry points burglars favour because they're out of sight. Wireless contacts and motion detectors avoid opening up plaster, and a camera on the laneway side covers what the street can't see.

Shared walls in semis and row houses also change how we place glass-break and motion detection so the system reacts to your home, not your neighbour's.

Condos and high-rise suites

Building concierge and fob access don't protect what happens inside a suite. A compact system with a door contact, interior motion and monitored smoke and flood detection suits most condos — read do Toronto condos need alarm systems?

Main-street businesses

Storefronts, restaurants, clinics, law offices and places of worship along Toronto's commercial streets need monitored intrusion protection after hours, glass-break sensors on large front windows, and cameras on entrances and rear doors. See our guides for law firms and churches.

Frequently asked questions

Can you install an alarm in an older Toronto home without opening walls?

Usually, yes. Wireless door, window and motion devices avoid cutting into plaster, and existing wiring can often be reused.

Do you protect condo suites?

Yes — typically a suite-entry contact, interior motion and monitored smoke or flood detection, connected to 24/7 monitoring.
