GTA Jewelry Store Robbery Ring Busted, Halton Police Arrest 8 Suspects

By Knightwatch Alarms ·

Halton police have arrested eight people and laid more than 50 charges following a major investigation into a series of smash-and-grab robberies targeting jewelry stores across the GTA. Investigators say the organized group targeted stores in Burlington, Hamilton, Waterloo, Guelph, Brantford, Barrie, St. Catharines, and other Ontario communities between January and March 2026.

Police allege the suspects used stolen vehicles with cloned licence plates, wore masks and balaclavas, and used hammers to smash display cases before quickly fleeing with stolen jewelry. In one GTA robbery incident, a stolen vehicle was driven directly into a business, causing major structural damage.

Authorities say the investigation, called Project Pinnacle, remains ongoing and additional arrests may still be made. Some stolen jewelry has already been recovered after police executed multiple search warrants across Toronto and Mississauga. (Halton Regional Police Service)

Safety Notes: How Retail Stores Can Protect Against Smash-and-Grab Robberies

  • Install monitored alarm systems with instant emergency response
  • Use high-definition security cameras covering entrances, exits, and display areas
  • Install security film and reinforced glass to slow forced entry
  • Use panic buttons so employees can silently alert authorities
  • Keep high-value inventory locked in secure cases or safes overnight
  • Install bollards or barriers outside storefronts to stop vehicle ramming attacks
  • Use motion sensors and glass-break detectors inside the business
  • Make sure parking lots and storefronts are well lit at night
  • Display visible security signage to discourage criminals before they act

Smash-and-grab robberies are becoming more organized and aggressive across the GTA. Many of these crimes happen in under a minute, leaving business owners with major financial losses, damaged property, and shaken employees.

Businesses that sell jewelry, luxury goods, electronics, or collectibles are especially attractive targets because criminals know high-value items can be stolen quickly and resold easily.
