A house fire in North York has claimed the life of a man and his dog, highlighting how catastrophic residential fires can be, and how fast they can spread. According a Yahoo News report, emergency crews responded to the home, but sadly they were too late, as the blaze had already caused fatal damage. Investigators continue to examine the cause of the fire, as officials once again stress the importance of early detection systems in preventing loss of life.

Safety Notes
- Install monitored smoke detectors that alert both occupants and a 24/7 monitoring service immediately
- Test smoke alarms regularly and replace batteries at least once a year
- Ensure smoke detectors are installed on every level of your home and near sleeping areas
- Never ignore a smoke alarm, even if you suspect it’s a false alarm
- Keep fire hazards like candles, space heaters, and overloaded outlets under control
House fires are extremely dangerous and can become fatal in minutes.Traditional smoke alarms are a necessity, but rely on someone being home and able to respond, but monitored smoke detectors take safety to an additional level, as they automatically alert emergency responders, regardless of someone sleeping, in an area of the home where they wouldn't be able to hear a smoke alarm, or away from the home altogether.
